Foreword

In my many travels across the arcane and forgotten lands of the world we know as Sidereus, I have seen many sights, fought many battles, and engaged in many wondrous adventures. As I become advanced in my years, I am faced with an assortment of ever-present reminders that my adventuring days will soon end and I will be no longer able to venture forth into the great wilderness and discover hidden secrets, nor will I be able to travel to the many towns and villages of Sidereus and recount my tales to the eager masses, nor will I be able to warn intrepid young adventurers of the dangers I have experienced firsthand.

Perhaps it is vanity to say this, but I simply cannot allow this to be so. The world is a vast and intriguing and dangerous place. Whether your interest in the realms outside of your door is educational, economic, or experimental; an old sage such as myself could to worse than to spend his time and energy educating, enticing, and encouraging adventures young and old to take up the path I will soon be forced by the hand of old age and the will of the Ilith’ari to surrender.

As such I have taken quill to paper and determined, with an understanding of the great potential value of this task laid before me, to compose a volume that will serve all of the aforementioned purposes in as succinct and direct a fashion as possible. It is my hope that this book; part traveler’s log, part adventurer’s guide, part retelling of tales best forgotten, will serve as spyglass and compass for you intrepid explorers that seek to unravel this world’s mysteries, whether from the security and safety of the musty libraries of Lorhaven , or by placing your own self in harm’s way body and soul.

In these pages I will reveal to some of the various mysteries I have uncovered, the tales that I have heard, the battles that I have fought, and the roads that I have walked. There are many secrets to be learned in our world, and many of the archaic and ancient places I have ventured into have secrets and lore yet to be discovered. Whether you are exploring the Gold Elf ruins of Kiuruvesi, seeking the best taverns and inns in Valton, or looking for the fastest route of travel between Greyridge and Golddrake, information is a valuable commodity in this world. Knowing where to stay, who to talk to, and what to do when you’re exploring this vast realm is priceless knowledge.

As you venture out into the great beyond seeking knowledge, wealth and adventure, remember that the life of an explorer is often fraught with danger and peril and should not be entered into without the utmost caution and care. The life of an adventurer commonly necessitates a certain disregard for one’s personal safety. While high risk and substantial reward are often inexorably linked, it goes without saying that the would be Hero who is more prepared will live a longer life while exploring the world.

Without further elaboration, for my tendency when writing does tend toward elaboration, I bid you fond journeys and my earnest hope is that this text will be of aid to you in your travels.

Farewell brave hero, and Excelsior!

OOG (Is whatever knowledge posted here available to all characters or do they have to visit Lorehaven or where ever the books are kept?)

The purpose of Rando's books OOG is to present knowledge that is generally well known among adventurers. It is commonly available as hearsay in some form or another, so anyone can access it.

This could be a very good mechanism to descibe the setting within sidereus aspects of different ingame cultures and so forth. It's going to an intersting addition to the game.
